Compton and Up Marden Primary - 'closure is not an option'
Dear Parents and Friends,
The threat of closure that has, for the last six months, been hanging over Compton and Up Marden C of E Primary School has finally been formally lifted. In an announcement last week, the Education Department of West Sussex County Council has confirmed its support for our village school, and that closure is not an option.
The WSCC Director of Education has confirmed that, for our school the consultation process is finally and definitely over.
The Governors have been asked to look into the possibilities around the federation of our school with another. This is something we shall be investigating and if this is an option that will benefit the school and its pupils in the future, then we would discuss it with you further. But rest assured the future of our school is now firmly back on the hands of the school's Governing Body.
This WSCC consultation process has created enormous concern for all of us. Not knowing if there was going to be a school in the village at all from next September was a huge worry. We thank you once again for the patience and support you have shown. We move forward now with the freedom to make our school better and better.
We would invite you to remind anyone concerned that prospective parents have been given a longer period until February 14th to select Compton and Up Marden C of E Primary as a choice for their children's future education.
The massive support that the school has received from parents, local residents and all other stakeholders has been truly outstanding. The online questionnaire 'Have Your Say' received almost 1500 responses in total - of those over 50% were in support of 'No change' for Compton and Up Marden Primary. Thank you everybody who took part, we would encourage you to keep championing our school in whatever ways you can.
Thank you all for your wonderful support.
The Governing Body, Compton & Up Marden C of E Primary school.

Compton & Up Marden CE School is a small downland school set in an idyllic location with extensive grounds. Children thrive in a supportive, caring atmosphere where they become self-motivated, independent and confident.
Public transport is available from Westbourne, Rowlands Castle, Forestside and Stansted and a Local Authority mini-bus from Funtington via Watergate, Walderton, Stoughton, East Marden and Up Marden.
The school achieves high academic standards but also provides opportunities to develop creativity through art, music and drama. Children in Key Stage 2 receive free tuition to play a musical instrument.
French is taught throughout the school. The school works closely with the local parish church and our exciting project for a new hall and splendid additional facilities was successfully opened in 2012. Two brand new classrooms were also opened in 2017.
